Lyophilization removes water under vacuum from a frozen solution, leaving a porous cake or powder. Formulation excipients such as sugars or polyols can stabilize structure during freezing and drying and can raise the glass transition temperature. Residual moisture in the final product remains a critical variable because even small amounts can support hydrolysis over time. Storage recommendations often specify desiccation, darkness, and low temperature, though exact conditions depend on the peptide and its intended use. Stability studies measure changes under defined conditions rather than predicting absolute shelf life.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids linked by amide bonds. Their stability depends on sequence, length, and the chemical environment. Common degradation routes include hydrolysis of the peptide backbone, oxidation of methionine or cysteine residues, deamidation of asparagine or glutamine, and aggregation through hydrophobic or electrostatic interactions. These processes can alter mass, charge, or biological activity, so storage conditions aim to slow them. The relative importance of each route varies widely among peptides.
Temperature is a primary factor in peptide storage. Lower temperatures reduce molecular motion and slow degradation reactions, but freezing can concentrate solutes and promote aggregation. Lyophilized powders are commonly held at -20°C, whereas solutions are often kept at -80°C. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are harmful because ice crystal formation and pH shifts can damage the peptide. The glass transition temperature of a lyophilized cake influences its stability; below this temperature, molecular mobility is restricted. For solutions, the choice between -20°C and -80°C depends on the peptide's sensitivity and the intended storage duration.
Moisture, oxygen, and light also affect peptide integrity. Lyophilized powders absorb water from the air, which can enable hydrolysis and conformational changes. Oxygen promotes oxidation of sensitive residues, so storage under inert gas or in sealed vials is common. Light exposure can cause photodegradation, particularly for peptides containing aromatic amino acids. Buffer choice and pH influence charge state and solubility; extremes of pH accelerate deamidation and hydrolysis. Adding stabilizers such as sugars or polyols can protect the peptide during freezing and drying. Optimal conditions are determined empirically for each peptide.

== Genome == The cabbage looper genome is 368.2 Mb long (scaffold N50=14.2 Mb; contig N50=621.9 kb; GC content=35.6%) and includes 14,037 protein-coding genes and 270 microRNA (miRNA) genes. The genome and annotation are available at the Cabbage Looper Database. The cabbage looper genome is larger than the Drosophila melanogaster genome (180Mb) but smaller than the Bombyx mori genome (530mb). It encodes at least 108 cytochrome P450 enzymes, 34 glutathione S-transferases, 87 carboxylesterases, and 54 ATP-binding cassette transporters, some of which may be involved in its insecticide resistance. It has the ZW sex-determination system, where females are heterogametic (ZW) and males are homogametic (ZZ). Its telomeres contain (TTAGG)n repeats and transposons belonging to the non-long-terminal-repeat LINE/R1 family, similar to the silkworm. The PiggyBac Transposon, a widely used tool for genetic engineering, was originally discovered in the cabbage looper and subsequently identified in other taxa as well.
Porous glass is glass that includes pores, usually in the nanometre- or micrometre-range, commonly prepared by one of the following processes: through metastable phase separation in borosilicate glasses (such as in their system SiO2-B2O3-Na2O), followed by liquid extraction of one of the formed phases; through the sol-gel process; or simply by sintering glass powder. The specific properties and commercial availability of porous glass make it one of the most extensively researched and characterized amorphous solids. Due to the possibility of modeling the microstructure, porous glasses have a high potential as a model system. They show a high chemical, thermal and mechanical resistance, which results from a rigid and incompressible silica network. They can be produced in high quality and with pore sizes ranging from 1 nm up to any desired value. An easy functionalization of the inner surface opens a wide field of applications for porous glasses. A further special advantage of porous glasses compared to other porous materials, is that they can be made not only as powder or granulate, but also as larger pieces in almost any user defined shape and texture.

Although benzodiazepines are much safer in overdose than their predecessors, the barbiturates, they can still cause problems in overdose. Taken alone, they rarely cause severe complications in overdose; statistics in England showed that benzodiazepines were responsible for 3.8% of all deaths by poisoning from a single drug. However, combining these drugs with alcohol, opiates or tricyclic antidepressants markedly raises the toxicity. The elderly are more sensitive to the side effects of benzodiazepines, and poisoning may even occur from their long-term use. The various benzodiazepines differ in their toxicity; temazepam appears most toxic in overdose and when used with other drugs. The symptoms of a benzodiazepine overdose may include; drowsiness, slurred speech, nystagmus, hypotension, ataxia, coma, respiratory depression, and cardiorespiratory arrest. A reversal agent for benzodiazepines exists, flumazenil (Anexate), itself belonging to the chemical class of benzodiazepines. Its use as an antidote is not routinely recommended because of the high risk of resedation and seizures. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 326 people, 4 people had serious adverse events and 61% became resedated following the use of flumazenil. Numerous contraindications to its use exist. It is contraindicated in people with a history of long-term use of benzodiazepines, those having ingested a substance that lowers the seizure threshold or may cause an arrhythmia, and in those with abnormal vital signs.
On February 6, 2017, Duterte, citing continued attacks by the NPA on the military, formally terminated peace negotiations with the CPP-NPA-NDF, designated them as a terrorist organization and ordered the arrest of all NDF negotiators. Through an executive order he issued in December 2018, Duterte established the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), an inter-agency body that involved a whole-of-nation approach—from the national to local level— in addressing the root causes of communism. The NTF-ELCAC worked in close coordination with the military and focused on developing far-flung localities infiltrated by the NPA. Duterte also granted amnesty to former communist rebels and launched reintegration programs to support them and their families. Ultimately, in March 2019, he permanently terminated peace negotiations with the CPP-NPA-NDF, facilitating localized peace talks with the rebels. Duterte left office with the number of NPA guerrilla fronts in the country reduced from 89 to 23, and about 20,579 communist rebels reportedly surrendered from 2016 to 2021. Despite its success in reducing communist insurgency in the country, Duterte's administration was marred by numerous allegations of red-tagging, notably the left-leaning Makabayan Bloc; Duterte and the military dismissed the red-tagging accusations and argued the government was merely "identifying" them as communist fronts.
Generative AI models are used by chatbots such as ChatGPT, programming tools such as GitHub Copilot, text-to-image programs such as Midjourney, and text-to-video programs such as Runway Gen-2. Generative AI features have been added to existing commercially available services such as Microsoft Office (Microsoft Copilot), Google Photos, and the Adobe Suite (Adobe Firefly). Many generative AI models are also available as open-source software, including Stable Diffusion and the LLaMA language model. Smaller generative AI models with up to a few billion parameters can run on smartphones, embedded devices, and personal computers. For example, LLaMA-7B (a version with 7 billion parameters) can run on a Raspberry Pi 4 and one version of Stable Diffusion can run on an iPhone 11. Larger models with tens of billions of parameters can run on laptop or desktop computers. To achieve an acceptable speed, models of this size may require accelerators such as the GPU chips produced by NVIDIA and AMD or the Neural Engine included in Apple silicon products. For example, the 65 billion parameter version of LLaMA can be configured to run on a desktop PC. The advantages of running generative AI locally include protection of privacy and intellectual property, and avoidance of rate limiting and censorship. The subreddit r/LocalLLaMA in particular focuses on using consumer-grade gaming graphics cards through such techniques as compression.
The small intestine is a tubular structure around 6 to 7 m long, that begins at the duodenum, and ends at the ileum. Its mucosal area in an adult human is about 30 m2 (320 sq ft). The combination of the circular folds, the villi, and the microvilli increases the absorptive area of the mucosa about 600-fold, making a total area of about 250 m2 (2,700 sq ft) for the entire small intestine. Its main function is to absorb the products of digestion (including carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, and vitamins) into the bloodstream. There are three major divisions:
Published in 1966, the Textbook of Organic Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry described synephrine (in the form of its racemic tartrate) as a sympathomimetic agent that was "less effective than epinephrine", and which had been used for the treatment of chronic hypotension, collapse due to shock, and other conditions leading to hypotension. In a later (1972) textbook, synephrine was described as a drug, sold in Europe, that was administered in situations involving shock, such as surgical or bacteremic shock, and spinal anesthesia-related shock. The recommended dose was given here as 25–50 mg, by intravenous, intramuscular or subcutaneous administration. There is no mention of synephrine in editions of Drill's Pharmacology in Medicine later than the 3rd, nor is there any reference to synephrine in the 2012 Physicians' Desk Reference, nor in the current FDA "Orange Book". One current reference source describes synephrine as a vasoconstrictor that has been given to hypotensive patients, orally or by injection, in doses of 20–100 mg. One website from a healthcare media company, accessed in February, 2013, refers to oxedrine as being indicated for hypotensive states, in oral doses of 100–150 mg tid, and as a "conjunctival decongestant" to be topically applied as a 0.5% solution. However, no supporting references are provided.

Peptide degradation can arise from hydrolysis, oxidation, deamidation, and aggregation. The dominant route depends on the peptide sequence and the storage environment. Temperature, moisture, oxygen, light, and pH all influence the rate.
Freezing slows many chemical reactions but does not stop all degradation. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can promote aggregation or precipitation. Dry powders and solutions may respond differently to freezing.
pH affects the charge state of ionizable groups and can influence deamidation, hydrolysis, and aggregation. A pH that stabilizes one peptide may destabilize another. Buffer components can also participate in degradation or stabilization.
Removing water reduces hydrolytic degradation and limits microbial growth. Lyophilized powders are generally more stable at higher temperatures than aqueous solutions. They also tolerate shipping with less risk of degradation.
