A practical reference on aggregation: what it is, how it behaves, what the literature reports, and where the honest uncertainties sit.

Peptides are short chains of amino acids whose physical and chemical stability depends on sequence, length, and conformation. The amide backbone can hydrolyze under acidic or basic conditions, while side chains such as methionine, cysteine, and tryptophan are prone to oxidation. Aggregation may occur when hydrophobic regions associate, especially near surfaces or at high concentration. Because these pathways differ among peptides, no single storage condition applies to all sequences. Stability studies therefore examine each peptide under defined temperature, pH, and humidity ranges.
Temperature is a primary variable because most degradation reactions slow as thermal energy decreases. Lyophilized powders are commonly held at -20 °C for routine work and at -80 °C for longer archival periods, though exact recommendations depend on the peptide. Solutions are less stable than dry powders in many cases, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles can promote aggregation or precipitation. Inert atmospheres, such as argon or nitrogen, can limit oxidation for oxygen-sensitive sequences. Desiccants reduce water activity, which lowers hydrolysis rates during storage.
Peptides are short chains of amino acids whose physical and chemical stability depends on sequence, length, conformation, and the surrounding matrix. In the solid state, lyophilized powders are generally more stable than solutions because low water activity slows hydrolysis and oxidation. Residual moisture, oxygen, trace metals, and light can still promote degradation over time. Storage recommendations therefore balance temperature, humidity, and container integrity rather than relying on a single condition. The optimal condition for a given peptide is often determined empirically because no universal rule covers every sequence.
In aqueous solution, peptides are vulnerable to hydrolysis, oxidation, deamidation, and aggregation, with rates influenced by pH, temperature, buffer composition, and ionic strength. Acidic or neutral pH ranges often slow deamidation, while extreme pH can accelerate peptide bond cleavage. Dissolved oxygen and redox-active metal ions contribute to oxidation of methionine, cysteine, and tryptophan residues. Aggregation may be driven by hydrophobic interactions or by interfaces such as air-liquid and container surfaces. Because these pathways interact, solution storage usually requires tighter control than storage of dried material.

=== Toluene hydrodealkylation === Toluene hydrodealkylation converts toluene to benzene. In this hydrogen-intensive process, toluene is mixed with hydrogen, then passed over a chromium, molybdenum, or platinum oxide catalyst at 500–650 °C and 20–60 atm pressure. Sometimes, higher temperatures are used instead of a catalyst (at the similar reaction condition). Under these conditions, toluene undergoes dealkylation to benzene and methane:
=== Airglow of the Earth === The Earth's night sky is illuminated by diffuse light, called airglow, that is produced by radiative transitions of atoms and molecules. Among the most intense such features observed in the Earth's night sky is a group of infrared transitions at wavelengths between 700 nanometers and 900 nanometers. In 1950, Aden Meinel showed that these were transitions of the hydroxyl molecule, OH.
=== Fourth term (2024–2025) === Talarico defeated Nathan Boynton in the Democratic primary and was unopposed in the general election. In 2025, he continued to oppose placing the Ten Commandments in Texas public schools. The specific legislation, SB 10, required every classroom to visibly display a poster containing the Ten Commandments, sized at least 16 by 20 inches. When the bill was first brought to the floor of the Texas House, Talarico called a point of order that delayed its passage. The bill ultimately passed the legislature, but videos of his remarks against it went viral and led to an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. During the legislative debate over private school vouchers, Talarico, who opposed the legislation, attempted to amend the bill to have a statewide referendum determine whether the program would go into effect. The legislation passed and was signed into law without the amendment. In August 2025, Talarico was one of 51 Democratic Texas House members who broke quorum to delay the passage of mid-decade new congressional maps. While he was absent from the state, Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit to expel Talarico and 12 other representatives from the House by declaring their seats vacant. Talarico and the others named in the suit returned to the state before the Texas Supreme Court ruled in the case. In May 2026, the court determined it did not have jurisdiction to resolve a legislative dispute and dismissed the case.

Delta 6 desaturase is an enzyme involved in converting essential fatty acids to arachidonic acid and prostaglandins, both of which are important to the functioning of cells. Infertility in women: One 2007 study found, "Each 2% increase in the intake of energy from trans unsaturated fats, as opposed to that from carbohydrates, was associated with a 73% greater risk of ovulatory infertility...". Major depressive disorder: Spanish researchers analysed the diets of 12,059 people over six years and found that those who ate the most trans fats had a 48 per cent higher risk of depression than those who did not eat trans fats. One mechanism may be trans-fats' substitution for docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) levels in the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). Very high intake of trans-fatty acids (43% of total fat) in mice from 2 to 16 months of age was associated with lowered DHA levels in the brain (p=0.001). When the brains of 15 major depressive subjects who had committed suicide were examined post-mortem and compared against 27 age-matched controls, the suicidal brains were found to have 16% less (male average) to 32% less (female average) DHA in the OFC. The OFC controls reward, reward expectation, and empathy (all of which are reduced in depressive mood disorders) and regulates the limbic system. Behavioral irritability and aggression: a 2012 observational analysis of subjects of an earlier study found a strong relation between dietary trans fat acids and self-reported behavioral aggression and irritability, suggesting but not establishing causality.
=== 19 October === The SAF carried out a drone attack that destroyed an ammunition depot and set fire to the Government Secretariat in Geneina. Two guards of West Darfur’s de facto governor Al-Tijani Karshoum were killed in the attack, while Karshoum himself was injured. Seven people were killed in an SAF drone strike on the main market of Saraf Omra in North Darfur.
It also requires secondary dressing because wounds can quickly dry up with alginate dressing. Hydrofiber dressing: Made up of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, hydrofibers can absorb high amounts of wound discharge, forming a gel and preventing skin maceration.

Freezing slows hydrolysis and oxidation by reducing molecular motion and available water. Lyophilized powders contain little moisture, so they can remain stable for extended periods when kept cold and dry. The exact temperature depends on peptide sequence and expected storage duration.
Solutions generally degrade faster because water participates in hydrolysis and enables aggregation or microbial growth. Buffer composition, pH, and concentration influence the rate. For this reason, many procedures prepare solutions shortly before use and avoid long-term liquid storage.
Ice crystal formation and concentrated solutes can stress peptide molecules and promote aggregation. Repeated cycling also exposes the sample to temperature fluctuations that may accelerate degradation. Aliquoting before freezing reduces the number of cycles a single container experiences.
Lyophilized peptides have low water activity, which slows hydrolysis and many oxidative pathways. Low temperatures further reduce residual chemical reactivity and microbial growth risk. The exact temperature depends on peptide stability data and expected storage duration.
